05 Cliches About EDM Christian Music You Should Avoid

Christian Electronic Music

Electronic Dance Music or EDM is a broad genre of modern electronic dance music. It was first founded in the United States of America and has become increasingly popular throughout the world. EDM stands for “Electronic Dance Music.” This music is characterized by a variety of musical beats and drum sounds that are generated using sampling from a wide variety of sources, including traditional music instruments, and traditional music instruments synthesized via computer-generated programs. EDM uses a wide range of musical effects, including sampling from traditional rock songs, to create a sound that is very “dance-y.”

This trance like state often results in many dance audiences around the world joining in the fun. Christian EDM artists have created their own unique sound that is distinctly different from other DJs. One of the latest artists to come on the scene, “Wasted,” is described by Wikipedia as an American trance/disco DJ. His music has become extremely popular in the Christian dance music scene.

Christian EDM artists have been requested by Christian dance bands and worship leaders to perform at Christian churches and assemblies. Christian trance music has become a big part of church worship as well as it’s off-hour follow up music after services. Many radio stations in the United States have introduced special Christian tunes into their daily radio programming, providing another venue for people to request EDM Christian Music. The demand for EDM Christian Music has lead artists to put out albums of high quality Christian trance music that is designed specifically for worship. These Christian tunes are a huge hit with worship leaders and Christian teenagers alike.

There is a good deal of confusion when it comes to what is not Christian EDM music. Most non-Christians are of the opinion that any electronic Christian music that is downloaded from the Internet is deceptive. But is this true? What is or isn’t Christian EDM really? Has it really become deceptive?

To answer my own question, “Is Christian EDM Christian Music?” the term “EDM” would be better defined as a subset of the broader term “EDM Trance.” The sub-genre of “EDM Trance” was created during the early years when the popularity of sampling and scratching began to peak among the Christian worship music genre. As the popularity of that music grew worldwide, similar sub-genres emerged that incorporated the more popular aspects of sampling and scratching, which in turn allowed users to add their own personal styles to electronic dance music genres.

While EDM Christian Music does involve some level of self-sampling and scratching, the underlying theme is still pure. And that’s what makes EDM so deceptive… that it ends up being deceptive in its intent. At no time during the evolution of EDM did anyone suggest that this was going to be any different than any other electronic Christian music genres. It was only later when Christian trance became associated with requests for songs that Christian trance music took on a life of its own within the wider context of Christian worship. It was then that the term “EDM Christian Music” was born.

Now, many might say that this kind of EDM Christian Music is simply a clever way to get your request for a requested song changed into a prayer request. And while there’s nothing wrong with this in my opinion, I can also see how easy it would have been for a group of people to make EDM Christian Music songs their own. After all, this is where the term “EDM Trance” comes from. And if there’s a term that’s been popularized in the electronic Christian music scene, it has to come from EDM. With this in mind, one could very well argue that this is the biggest deception of all. Because if there’s one thing that I’ve learned about the Internet, it’s that you can almost always expect the unexpected.

So what exactly is EDM Christian Music and what does it really have to do with deception? Well, the truth is that Christian trance worship music isn’t quite the same as your typical fast paced Christian music with a touch of hip hop thrown in. Christian EDM is more of an expression of feelings in a way that’s completely similar to Christian soul music but with a strong electronic beat. So why does this deception happen? I believe it’s because those who promote this deceptive genre of Christian electronic dance music don’t truly understand what it means to be Christian.
